"Gods" Wins the 39th Gdynia Film Festival

The winners of the 39th Gdynia Film Festival have been announced. The festival's top winner was Bogowie (Gods), a film by Łukasz Palkowski, which won a total of five awards, including the top prize: the Golden Lions award for Best Film. The Silver Lions went to Pod Mocnym Aniołem (The Mighty Angel) by Wojciech Smarzowski. The Special Jury Prize went to Obywatel (Citizen) by Jerzy Stuhr. The Platinum Lions for lifetime achievement went to director Sylwester Chęciński.

Polish Films in Consideration

A selection of fifty films in consideration for nominations for this year's European Film Awards was announced on September 16 at a press conference in Riga. The list includes several Polish titles co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

"Papusza" Awarded in Brazil

Papusza, a film by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, received the award for Best Director at the Brasilia International FIlm Festival, which closed on September 6.

"Ida" in Slovakia and Hungary

Ida, a film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, was released theatrically in Slovakia and Hungary on September 11, 2014.

Another Award for "Ida"

Ryszard Lenczewski and Łukasz Żal Received the award for Best Cinematography for their work on Paweł Pawlikowski's Ida at the Mediaș Central European festival in Romania.

"Ida" in Consideration

European Film Academy announced the nominations for the EFA People's Choice Award. One of the six nominated titles is Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski. Audience votes will decide which film gets the award.

Polish Animations in Japan

Łaźnia (Baths) by Tomasz Ducki and Fuga na Wiolonczelę, Trąbkę i Pejzaż (Fugue for Cello, Trumpet and Landscape) by Jerzy Kucia, both co-financed by the Polish Film Institute received recognition at the 15th Hiroshima International Animated Film Festival, which closed on August 24.

Granice wytrzymałości (Rollercoaster), a student film directed by Marek Marlikowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, is one of a number of short student films selected for screening at the 13th International Film Student Meeting of the 62nd San Sebastian International Film Festival between September 23 and September 26.

"The Cut" in Main Competition at 71st Venice IFF

The Cut, an international co-production directed by Fatih Akin and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will screen in Main Competition at the 71st Venice International Film Festival, which runs from August 27 through September 6, 2014.

"The Domino Effect" Wins

Efekt Domina (The Domino Effect), a feature-length documentary film directed by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski, received an award at the DokuFest film festival in Pristina.

"Foreign Body" - Premiere at TIFF

The 39th Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 4 through September 14. The lineup of this year's edition of the festival features Obce ciało (Foreign Body), a film directed by Krzysztof Zanussi and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Polish Films in Lineup of 67th Locarno IFF

The following films have been selected for screening at this year's edition of the Locarno International Film Festival: Matka Ziemia (Mother Earth) by Piotr Złotorowicz ('Pardi di domani' competition), 15 stron świata (15 Corners of the World) by Zuzanna Solakiewicz (La Semaine de la Critique), and Arizona w mojej głowie (They Chased Me Through Arizona) by Matthias Huser ('Cineasti del presente' competition). The 67th Locarno IFF runs from August 6 through August 16.
