"Rosa" at Riga Film Festival
The first edition of a new film event entitled FF Riga will run from September 10 through September 12. This festival was established to continue the mission of the "Arsenals" festival that had been organized annually in Riga for the past 20 years.
Film on Opałka Awarded in Montreal
Opałka - jedno życie, jedno dzieło (Opałka - One Life, One Oeuvre), directed by Andrzej Sapija, received the Grand Prize at the 30th International Festival of Films on Art. The festival ran from March 15 through March 25, 2012 in Montreal. Opałka - One Life, One Oeuvre was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
"Battleheart" Wins Award in Locarno
Serce do walki (Battleheart), directed by Tomasz Matuszczak, received special recognition at the 65th Locarno International Film Festival. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Polish Films in Leipzig
Four Polish films will screen at the Filmkunst Messe in Leipzig. Screenings of these Polish films are organized with support from the Polish Film Institute.
Polish Premiere Films in Toronto
The upcoming Toronto International Film Festival will mark the world premieres of Baby Blues by Katarzyna Rosłaniec and Imagine by Andrzej Jakimowski. The festival will also feature the premiere screening of an international co-production with Polish involvement - Igor i podróż żurawi (Igor and the Cranes' Journey) by Evgany Ruman.
Documentaries from Wajda School online
Nine documentaries developed in Wajda School and produced by Wajda Studio are available on Doc Alliance's website for free from August 6th till August 13th.
Two Polish Films in Montreal
Obława (Manhunt) by Marcin Krzyształowicz and Zdjęcie (The Photograph) by Maciej Adamek will screen in competition at the 36th Montreal International Film Festival in Montreal. The festival runs from August 23 through September 3, 2012. Both films were co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Step In Day at Locarno IFF
The Step In Day conference was a presentation of the Eastern European film industry, organized on August 5 within the framework of Industry Days at the 65th Locarno International Film Festival. The Polish Film Institute was among the organizing partners of this event.
"Igor" World Premiere in Toronto
Igor i podróż żurawi (Igor and the Cranes' Journey) by Evgany Ruman, a co-production between Israel, Poland, and Germany, will screen in the TIFF Kids section of the upcoming 37th Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 6 through September 16, 2012. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The Toronto screening will mark the world premiere of Igor and the Cranes' Journey.
New Film by Jan Komasa
Miasto, the new film by Jan Komasa, is scheduled to begin filming in May 2013. The film is set in the time of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, but the focus of the plot will not be on history. Lensed by cinematographer Paweł Edelman, the film will centre around young people, their lives, their struggle, and love. The filmmakers discussed the project at yesterday's meeting at the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
12th T-Mobile New Horizons Winners
July 29, 2012 brought the 12th edition of the T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival to a close. The festival's Grand Prix went to De jueves a domingo (From Thursday Till Sunday), a co-production between Chile and the Netherlands directed by Dominga Sotomayor Castillo. Twelve international films competed for the festival's top prize. The T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Grand Prix for "Jeż Jerzy"
The animated feature Jeż Jerzy (Jeż Jerzy: The Movie), directed by Wociech Wawszczyk, Jakub Tarkowski and Tomasz Leśniak, received the Grand Prix at the 16th International Animated Film Festival SICAF2012 in South Korea. The event was organized in Seoul and ran from July 18 through July 22.
Krzysztof Kieślowski
August 29 will bring the launch of the largest retrospective of films by Krzysztof Kieślowski in France, along with an exhibition illustrating the life of this Polish director. The event is organized at the Paris MK2 Bibliothèque cinema, and will run until the end of September.
Polish Days in Wrocław
Polish Days was an industry event organized within the framework of the 12th T-Mobile International Film Festival on July 21-23, 2012. This event, co-organized by the Polish Film Institute, brought together a number of international distributors, festival programmers, and industry reps.
Good Reviews after Karlovy Vary
After the 47th edition of Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in foreign industry magazines appeared postive reviews of Polish films which were presented during the festival.
On the Set of Wałęsa
We visited the set of Wałęsa, a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Wałęsa, the latest production by director Andrzej Wajda, focuses on the story of legendary Solidarity leader Lech Wałęsa, following his life from the early 1970s until the time when he was elected President.

Karlovy Vary: Lubos Wins Best Actor
The 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival has come to an end. The closing gala of this year's festival brought the presentation of the Crystal Globes awards. The winner in the Best Actor category was Polish actor Eryk Lubos for his performance in Zabić bobra (To Kill a Beaver) by Jan Jakub Kolski. The film received support from the Polish Film Institute. Lubos shares the Best Actor award with Henrik Rafaelsen (The Almost Man). Special Mention in Main Competition also went to the actors of Polski film by Marek Najbrt. The festival's Grand Prize went to The Almost Man.
"To Kill a Beaver" in Karlovy Vary
July 3 brought the world premiere o Jan Jakub Kolski's feature Zabić bobra (To Kill a Beaver) at the 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The film received support from the Polish Film Institute.
"Shameless" in Karlovy Vary
July 2 marked the international premiere of Bez wstydu (Shameless) by Filip Marczewski at the 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Shameless features in the festival's East of the West competition.
Poland-India Agreement
An audiovisual co-production agreement between Poland and India was signed on July 4 at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Warsaw. In addition to film co-production, the agreement covers other types of production, mainly television.
