Polish Films on Toronto Star List

The Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival is now on in Toronto. The Canadian daily newspaper Toronto Star made a list of the festival's ten most interesting titles, choosing from among 199 films from 43 countries. The list includes two Polish documentaries.

Interview with Roger Christian [video]

At the Off Plus Camera film festival in Krakow, which drew to a close on April 17, we spoke to director and production designer Roger Christian, winner of an Academy Award for Best Art Direction for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) by George Lucas. 
Roger Christian discussed his work as a jury member of the Polish Feature Film Competition at Off Plus Camera, and shared a few details about the upcoming adaptation of Stanisław Lem's novel "Pamiętnik znaleziony w wannie" (Memoirs Found in a Bathtub), which he will be directing.

Kubarska’s New Project Pitched

OPC Awards Presented

The fourth edition of the Off Plus Camera international independent film festival has drawn to an end. The Krakow Film Award went to Korean filmmaker Park Jung-bum, director of Musan il-gy.

Zanussi Awarded in Skopje

Krzysztof Zanussi will be a special guest at the Skopje Film Festival in Macedonia, where he is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Macedonian Film Archive and the University of Audiovisual Arts.

Tim Roth Awarded at OPC

At the Script Pro 2011 awards gala, the "Against the Current" award for contribution to the development of independent cinema went to British actor and director Tim Roth. The award was presented by Jerzy Skolimowski, who chaired the jury of the International Competition for the Krakow Film Award.

Łoziński’s Films at Doc Alliance

In the last two weeks of April, the Doc Alliance website will have free access to films by Marcel Łoziński, one of the masters of Polish documentary filmmaking, director, screenwriter, and lecturer, whose 89mm od Europy (89mm from Europe) received a European Film Award nomination and an Oscar nomination in 1994.

"Charcoal Burners" Awarded in Paris

The Jury of the 1st Semaine du Cinéma de Sciences Po festival, presided by Gilles Jacob, head of the Cannes International Film Festival, unanimously awarded the festival's Golden Fox grand prize to the documentary student film Smolarze (Charcoal Burners) by Piotr Złotorowicz.

Off Plus Camera: Polish Competition

This year will mark the first Polish Feature Film Competition at the Off Plus Camera film festival in Krakow. An international jury will judge ten selected films that were produced over the past year.

Polish Films at the 51st Krakow FF

The selection of competition films at the 51st Krakow Film Festival is now complete. This year's edition of the festival will run from May 23 through 29. The final lineup of the international feature documentary and medium-length documentary competitions and the short documentary, feature, and animation competitions has been announced. Seven Polish films will screen in competition.

“Between Two Fires” at FebioFest

Filmland Polen Starts Again

March 27 marked the launch of the 9th Filmland Polen New Polish Film Festival. The project is aimed at presenting latest Polish features to German audiences. Films are screened from March to December in several German cities, including Hamburg, Bremen, and Hanover.

9th Edition of London’s "Kinoteka"

A gala screening of Essential Killing opened the "Kinoteka" Polish Film Festival last night in London. April 1 will bring the release of Skolimowski's feature in theatres throughout the United Kingdom. The ninth edition of the "Kinoteka" film festival runs from March 24 through April 13 in five UK cities.

Handlarz cudów (The Miracle Seller) by Jarosław Szoda and Bolesław Pawica received the 2011 Bergamo Film Meeting Prize of the 29th edition of the Bergamo Film Meeting in Italy. The event closed on March 20.

"Beats of Freedom" Wins in Finland

The fourth edition of MusiXine, the international film festival for music documentaries, closed last Saturday in the Finnish town of Oulu. With nine titles screening in competition, the winner of the Best Film award was the Polish documentary Beats of Freedom. Zew wolności (Beats of Freedom), focused on the early days of rock music in Poland.
