THE LAUNCH OF THE POLISH-GERMAN FILM FUND
September 28 marked a press conference at Warsaw's Kultura cinema to launch the Polish-German Film Fund. The agreement bringing the Fund into existence was signed at the conference by General Director of the Polish Film Institute Agnieszka Odorowicz, head of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg Kirsten Niehuus, and head of Mitteldeutsche Medienfoerderung (MDM) Manfred Schmidt.
"THE QUEEN OF SILENCE" WINS GRAND PRIZE IN PERM
Królowa ciszy (The Queen of Silence), a documentary directed by Agnieszka Zwiefka and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received the Grand Prize at the Flahertiana Film Festival in Perm, which closed on September 24.
"11 MINUTES" POLAND'S OSCAR CANDIDATE
The Oscar Committee appointed by Minister of Culture and National Heritage Małgorzata Omilanowska unanimously selected 11 minut (11 Minutes), a film directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, to be Poland's candidate for this year's Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
