13 Films in Main Competition
The Main Competition lineup of this year's 37th Gdynia Film Festival has been released. The films competing for the Golden Lions Grand Prize this year include seven world premieres, three films by first-time directors, and one film by a second-time director. Several of the competition films have already seen their theatrical release.
Polish Films at Hot Docs
The 19th edition of the Hot Docs Film Festival begins on April 26. 189 of the world's best documentaries will screen in Toronto over the course of eleven days. Among them are two Polish documentary films, both co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Polish Director Wins BAFTA Award
Agata Jagodzińska received the BAFTA New Talent Award for Best Screenplay in the Fiction: Under 30 Minutes category. The New Talent Awards are dedicated to young filmmakers and awarded by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
Eagle Awards: "Rosa" Wins Best Pic
The 14th edition of the Polish Film Awards drew to an end with the Eagle awards ceremony, held on March 19 at Warsaw's Grand Theatre. The Polish Film Academy voted Róża (Rosa) by Wojciech Smarzowski as Best Picture of the Year. Rosa won a total of seven awards.
Żuławski Retrospective in LA & NYC
The first complete US retrospective of films by Andrzej Żuławski is taking place in Los Angeles and New York City. Supported by the Polish Film Institute, this event has won the acclaim of US audiences and critics.
Polish-French Co-Production Deal
On March 5, 2012 in Paris, Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski and French Minister of Culture and Communication Frédéric Mitterrand signed an agreement on international film co-production.
"North from..." bought by Arte
Marcin Sauter's film Na północ od Kalabrii (North from Calabria) was bought by Arte - a French-German TV network. The film will be broadcast in a special series which focuses on creative documentaries, called "Faraway Places". The film is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
"The Christening" in Czech cinemas
Marcin Wrona's feature Chrzest (The Christening) has been shown in the Czech cinemas since February 23, 2012. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Polish films at ZagrebDox
Three short films made by Wajda Studio were selected for the "ZagrebDox" - International Documentary Film Festival in Zagreb. "Paparazzi" by Piotr Bernaś and "Decrescendo" by Marta Minorowicz qualified for the International Competition, and Kuba Maciejko's film "Bon Appetit" was invited to the Happy Dox section.
"Carnage" awarded with Cesar
Roman Polański and Yasmina Reza received the Cesar Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film Rzeź (Carnage). The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute (PISF).
Jolanta Dylewska on Variety's list
List of the best cinematographers of 2011 was published in the February 14 edition of the Variety. One of the top Ten Cinematographers to Watch is Jolanta Dylewska who was acknowledged for her cinematography in Agnieszka Holland's W ciemności (In Darkness).

Aleksandra Różdżyńska spoke with Jakub Gierszał the Polish Shooting Star 2012 and winner of the Zbyszek Cybulski Audience Award 2011. Gierszał tells about his work on the set of Yuma by Piotr Mularuk and explains what is important for him when choosing a role. He tells also about his authority figures and the need for contact between generations.
Launch of the 62nd Berlinale
The 62nd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival is opening on February 9, 2012 and will run till February 19. Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute will be screened during the event, as well as new projects looking for foreign co-producers. General Director of the Polish Film Institute Agnieszka Odorowicz will attend the festival.
Nominations for the Polish Film Awards
The nominations for the 2012 Polish Film Awards (Eagles) were presented on February 7 in the Primate's Palace in Warsaw by previous Eagle winners and nominees.
"In Darkness" Nominated for an Oscar
W ciemności (In Darkness) by Agnieszka Holland is one of the films nominated for the 84th Academy Awards. This feature film, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received an Oscar nomination in the Best Film in a Foreign Language category. One of the nominations for Best Achievement in Cinematography went to cinematographer Janusz Kamiński for War Horse, the latest feature by Steven Spielberg. Nominations were announced on January 24.
Jakub Gierszał Shooting Star 2012
Jakub Gierszał is one of ten European actors to be named the 2012 Shooting Star. Gierszał was submitted for consideration by the Polish Film Institute.
CIFEJ Special Award for A. Odorowicz
The special awards ceremony of CIFEJ (Centre International du Film pour l'Enfance et la Jeunesse) took place on January 20 in Warsaw's Kultura cinema. CIFEJ is an international organization focused on filmmaking and audiovisual production for children and young adults. The General Director of the Polish Film Institute Agnieszka Odorowicz was one of the award winners, recognized for her accomplishments in the field of children's films.
Wojcieszek's "Secret" at Berlinale
Przemysław Wojcieszek’s feature Sekret (Secret) will screen in the Forum section of the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. The film received support from the Polish Film Institute.
CIFEJ General Assembly in Poland
The General Assembly of CIFEJ (Centre International du Film pour l'Enfance et la Jeunesse) will be held in Warsaw on January 20-23, 2012. CIFEJ is an international organization that focuses on issues related to audiovisual production for children and young adults. On January 20 the General Director of the Polish Film Institute Agnieszka Odorowicz will receive a special CIFEJ award.
'In Darkness' on Oscar Shortlist
W ciemności (In Darkness) by Agnieszka Holland has been shortlisted for the Academy Award nominations for Best Film in a Foreign Language. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
